Construction is underway on Lantern Hill, Erickson Living’s new, 540,000-square-foot CCRC on 21 acres in New Providence, New Jersey—about 20 miles west of New York City. This will be Erickson’s 18th senior living community and its third in northern/central New Jersey. Upon completion, Lantern Hill will have five interconnected buildings that comprise 275 independent living apartments (one- and two-bedroom units) and 85 continuing care residences that offer assisted living, memory care, long-term care, and short-term rehabilitation. Residents will enjoy a fitness facility with an indoor swimming pool, along with a wide range of services and amenities, such as restaurants, housekeeping, and social/recreational programs.
Lantern Hill is a “natural extension of Erickson Living’s commitment to serving the state of New Jersey,” according to Chris Emmett, Vice President of Regional Operations. The new community also reflects Erickson’s recognition of the strong demand for desirable senior living in the area, as New Jersey is the most densely populated state in the nation. Growth of the age 60+ population is forecast to increase throughout New Jersey by 58% from 2000 to 2025, according to Blueprint for Healthy Aging in New Jersey, a report published by the New Jersey Department of Health and Human Services in 2008. Erickson Living’s other senior living communities in the state are Cedar Crest in Pompton Plains (Morris County) and Seabrook in Tinton Falls (Monmouth County).
Lantern Hill is expected to open this fall. The on-site sales office opened in April—and by May had received deposits from more than 150 people, a company record for the quickest number of apartment-home presales in one month, according to Erickson. Wohlsen Construction, with offices throughout the Mid-Atlantic region, is the general contractor; the project architect is Lantz-Boggio Architects of Englewood, Colorado.
