No matter who wins, there will be violence and we still have not dealt with Social Security and Medicare. Pathetic.

Unfortunately, I am writing this just after I voted today, but before we will know the outcome for the White House and the Senate. I think it is a safe bet that the House will remain where it is, more or less. It was the first time I have ever had to wait in line, 30 minutes.

I have now voted in 12 presidential elections, and I am sad to say that I voted for the winner in just four of them, with one still unknown. Not a good track record, or am I out of step with the rest of the country? Perhaps, but I don’t like to think so.

But in those 12 elections, this is the first time that stores are being boarded up in case of violence and looting by either losing side. This is pathetic. This is still a democracy, and if you lose, that means you need to do a better job next time to persuade more people that you are the better choice, or you have the better vision.

As I have said over the years, and too many election cycles, the one big thing that is missing from all conversations is any talk about the elderly, and making sure there is funding for Social Security and Medicare. The only talk is about how many have died from COVID, and who was at fault. Pathetic again. This funding problem is huge, is getting bigger by the year, and is not going away. The unprecedented deficit spending this year and prior years is not going to help.

No matter who wins, it is time to get back to basics, and before making more expensive spending promises, let’s try to keep the promises that have been made to the elderly for several decades. Somehow, I think I will be disappointed yet again, regardless of who wins. This has to change.
