Last week, we hosted a 90-minute webinar called “Seniors Housing M&A: The Numbers, the Deals and the 2017 Forecast” with panelists Arnold Whitman of Formation Capital, Bill Mulligan of Ziegler and Alan Plush of HealthTrust, and Steve Monroe moderating. The panel discussed our 2016 M&A statistics for the skilled nursing, assisted living and independent living M&A markets (to be published in the 22nd Edition of The Senior Care Acquisition Report this March), which saw new record-high prices for SNFs and ALFs. As we all descend upon D.C., please take some time to stop and chat with us at the conference. So, the 26th annual NIC Conference is upon us. I wonder what the big topic will be this year, if any. In years past there have been exciting developments right before or during the conference, such as Sunrise Senior Living’s share price plunging, or Formation Capital’s billion dollar plus sale of SNFs to GE, or last year the spin-off of skilled nursing assets by Ventas into a new REIT. Will people be talking about Welltower’s billion-dollar acquisition of Vintage Senior Living? Or will it be the upcoming skilled nursing spin-off by HCP? Formation Capital went to KeyBank Real Estate Capital to refinance a 22-property skilled nursing portfolio located in Florida (17 facilities) and Mississippi (five). With a total of 2,682 beds, the facilities were purchased in February from GE Capital. John Randolph and Paul Di Vito of KeyBank arranged $249 million in HUD financing, which will help pay down an existing bridge loan that funded a 66-facility acquisition. Read More »
